Sandra Pietrini

Sandra Pietrini is Full Professor of Theatre History at the University of Trento  (Italy). She is responsible for the Laboratorio Teatrale and the scientific project Arianna, the largest international database of Shakespearean iconography.

1993 University Degree in Literature with a thesis on History of Theatre on Le teorie della mimica nell’Ottocento (University of Florence). Since 1995 has been Member of the Research Team of the Department of History of Arts and Theatre, working on the production of Dionysos, a Thesaurus of Theatre Iconography. 1997: PhD. in History of Theatre with the dissertation Iconografia del giullare. Giullari e intrattenitori nelle arti figurative del XIII e del XIV secolo. 1998: Two-Year Post-Doctoral Scholarship with a research programme on The Memory of Theatre in the Middle Ages. 2000-2004: Research Fellow at the Department of Modern Literature and Sciences of Languages of the University of Siena. Since 2005 she is Professor of History of Theatre at the University of Trento. She is member of the scientific committee of Acting Archives, directed by Claudio Vicentini of the University L’Orientale di Napoli and the review “Sinais de cena” of the University of Lisbon.

In 2014 she has been invited to held a seminar on medieval theatre by the Universidad Nacional Autonóma (UNAM) of Mexico. Since 2006 she participate to the activities of the international research group “Literatura i representació en la llarga edat mitjana” (LaiRem)  and from 2014 to 2017 she is has been part of the international group Traza y figura de la danza en la larga edad media: corpus iconográfico, textual y etnográfico en la península ibérica y su proyección latinoamericana. Since 2017 she is in the scientific board of “Le crinoline” (Aras Edizioni) and since 2019 she directs “L’immaginario teatrale” (Edizioni dell’Orso).
